Our Mission
Since 1987, Youth Resources has engaged over 141,970 young people in
leadership and community service activities. Our mission is to empower young people to take ownership of challenges they see in the community, devise action plans to address those issues, and implement service projects to improve life in the local community
through their leadership. We strive to increase their awareness of others' needs and to encourage life-long civic responsibility.
Our Impact
Through our programs, young people are reaching out to their peers through drug
and alcohol prevention projects, community service, and conflict mediation. They
are meeting and working with the Mayor of Evansville, City Council members,
Vanderburgh County Commissioners, EVSC School Board members, and Juvenile Court
System to improve our community.
They have aided foster families, the elderly, the physically challenged, and children of battered women. They cleaned, raked, mowed, and landscaped neighborhood yards and parks. Students collected food for local food banks and homeless shelters, and they collected toys and clothes for underprivileged children at Christmas. Other groups made teddy bears for children in crisis situations, produced a live puppet show to send the anti-drug message to younger students, and organized a school-wide talent show to raise thousands of dollars for the Humane Society. They tutored, mentored, and motivated other youth to be stronger leaders. The list of these meaningful, creative projects goes on and on!
In the 2008-09 school year, over 1,500 youth in Southwestern Indiana and
Western Kentucky were directly involved in youth-led community service projects
funded by Youth Resources.
