YR Captures Leadership Evansville Community Impact Award
Youth Resources was recognized as the Organization Community and Neighbo rhood Impact Award winner at Leadership Evansville’s 22nd Annual Celebration of Leadership Thursday night at the Old National Events Plaza.
The Celebration of Leadership is a conscious effort to seek and honor individuals, projects and organizations that make significant contributions to the Evansville community.
Youth Resources, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2017, empowers the community’s young leaders to make a difference in society through its programming. With a basis in civic engagement and compassionate leadership, YR has fostered the personal growth of nearly 1,000 students in the past year.
With a little more than two months remaining in the 2016-17 academic year, Youth Resources’ student leaders have completed nearly 4,000 hours of community service across the agency’s four programs: Make A Difference Grants, Teen Advisory Council, TEENPOWER, and Vanderburgh County Teen Court.
Youth Resources’ recognition marks its fifth accolade received from Leadership Evansville and the third in the past five years.
YR’s Vanderburgh County Teen Court (2013, 2015), TEENPOWER (2013) and Teen Advisory Council (2010) programs have all received Celebration of Leadership Project Awards since 2010, but Thursday’s Community and Neighborhood Impact Award represents the first time Youth Resources has been honored by Leadership Evansville as an overall organization.
“This award is a testament to the amazing students we work with who give their time and energy to so many organizations and initiatives in our community,” said Executive Director Laura Ferguson. “YR thrives because our staff board, alumni, volunteers, donors and advocates believe in the power of young people.”
Ferguson, Board Chair Ryan Beal, and a handful of youth volunteers and alumni were all on hand to accept YR’s award.
